Step Three: Taking it to the Next Level
| Waypoint 6 Advanced ASA courses (105, 106) and advanced weather training These are the Advanced Coastal Navigation and Advanced Coastal Cruising (night sailing, heavier weather) courses. These courses separate the casual sailors only interested in daysailing and occasional BVI charters, from those looking to move forward with sailing as a lifestyle and future boat ownership. Again, Two Can Sail can help you with these courses since we are certified to teach both of these. Waypoint 7 Bareboat chartering with a Flotilla in Class 2/3 locales (e.g. Tahiti) Taking advantage of having experienced cruisers along who can help with the new challenges offered by these more demanding locations, as well as the fun of having other boats along for the camaraderie and learning that goes with participating in a Flotilla. As Flotilla leaders for ASA Jeff & Jean are planning to lead two exotic flotillas in 2012, one in Greece and the other in the S. Pacific. Waypoint 8 Crew on training passages (ASA 107/108) As students of ours we offer the opportunity to sign on as delivery crew when a voyage of more than hundred miles are booked, go along as unpaid crew and share expenses gaining valuable sea time and experience. Sign on for passages to experience life underway nonstop for many days at a time. A host of new items come up on the learning list for this next level. You may wish to pursue ASA Celestial Navigation (107) and Offshore Passage Making (108) certifications. In addition, Radar watch stander training and Lee Chesneau’s 2 day weather training course are recommended. |
